Thank goodness for skype...

Ok, this is obvious that technology is amazing these days but it needs to be acknowledged.
I don't know if I could be living abroad with out it?

Just like these old phone booths actually...

I think of my grandma and when my grandpa went to World War Two for four years. Letters were it...

Now my daughter is growing up with skype and it is ever evolving...
Still waiting for the "beam me up scottie" though.

Oh I totally agree. I couldn't manage without skype since my grandson was born last April. I can't get back to England more than twice a year, but at least I can talk to my daughter every day and see my grandson and his progress.

I was in New York for about 5 months but I was able to keep in touch every night with my friends in Turkey with Skype. And if you had asked me fifteen years ago whether it would be possible, I would have looked at you like you were crazy! I feel like a Jetson.
Another thing that makes life more enjoyable for an ex pat is using Winamp to listen to internet radio and podcasts which can be downloaded into a MP3 player.
And I recall twenty years ago, fiddling for hours with a crummy shortwave radio to try to pick up BBC international or Voice of America just to hear any news or the sound of a person speaking my native language.
